Our monthly meetup on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month (except on holidays) provides writers a space to work on their projects, offer and receive critiques, and even to meet other local writers. Monday afternoons just got a bit better! Join us on the second Monday of each month for coloring, conversation, and light snacks. Drop-in any time; registration is not required. Coloring & Conversation is for adults and teens accompanied by an adult. Questions? Call 757-890-5207.

Establish or deepen your mindfulness and meditation practice on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM at Tabb Library with Melissa McGill, Ed.D., certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher, E-RYT200 in a supportive small group setting.  Instruction and guidance on foundational mindfulness and meditation practices is incorporated. The Tabb Book Readers (TBR) is an adult book discussion group that meets from 1:15-2:30 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month at the Tabb Library. Please register by the Friday before the meeting. Join us on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 1:30pm - 3:00 pm for Memory Café at the Tabb Library!

This social gathering is for anyone personally affected by memory loss and their care partners. Each café will offer its guests the chance for unstructured conversation, refreshments and getting to know others with similar memory changes. Care Partners and/or spouses must attend as well. The café is organized and hosted by trained facilitators.

Artists and crafters are invited to clean out their closets to trade for new-to-you supplies during our Community Arts and Crafts Supplies Swap.

Starting Friday, March 14th, drop off your unneeded but usable supplies in good condition to the Yorktown or Tabb Reference Desk during regular business hours.

Donors who donate between March 14th and March 21st will receive a timed entry ticket to enter the swap at 2:00 PM. Individuals who donate on the day of the swap must wait until 2:30 PM to enter.

To ensure all can benefit, we will have a one-bag take-home limit per adult- the bag should be an average sized cloth tote bag or the size of a Trader Joe's paper bag.

What to Donate: 

• Yarn and ribbon--no more than one bag/box
• Fabric and felt --no more than one box/bag
• Knitting needles, crochet hooks, stitch counters, etc.
• Scrapbooking or card-making supplies, scrapbook embellishments
• Paper and cardstock for card-making/scrapbooking--no more than one box
• Beads and beading supplies
• Jewelry making supplies and tools
• Useable art paints and brushes
• Pencils and pastels
• Art paper, drawing pads
• Small wood cutouts, unpainted
• Stencils

We will not accept:

• Open house paint, aerosols or hazardous materials
• Sewing or needlework materials/tools
• Dried up art paints, markers, etc.
• Hazardous materials in your garage, including oil-based solvents or house paint
• Smelly donations, such as those smelling of cigarette smoke or pet smells, for example
• Items that are too big to fit in a standard brown paper grocery bag - items should be easily carried fit, so that others may carry them, too!
• Patterns: clothing, doll clothing, home décor
• Anything that is not directly craft related, i.e. Dollhouse miniatures, board games, toys, puzzles, etc.
• Books - please save books for our book sale!

Disclaimer: Leftover supplies may be used for future library programs or will be donated.  

Spend a relaxing afternoon working on your individual fiber arts projects while enjoying the company of others at Yorktown Library.  This drop-in program occurs on the 4th Saturday (excluding holidays) each month from 2-4 PM at Yorktown Library. It is for adults of all skill levels interested in crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, and other related crafts. Teens are also welcome if accompanied by an adult. A limited amount of supplies (yarn, needles, hooks, etc.) will be available while supplies last.
